“Through the Fiber”
Materials- 14x15cm, Risograph on paper, Digital print on Tracing paper, UTP network cable
In this project, I extended and interpreted the concept of "Fiber" in a broad sense.
To me, fiber means the Internet rather than Textile. I connect with someone or something through the fiber internet.
Magdalena Abakanowicz brought the soft fibrous form into a new relationship with sculpture. For me, the material of the Internet is like that.
This is because it uses everyday materials to pioneer new genres. I've been interested in AI recently. From an artist's point of view, the concept of using AI to generate art, interests me.
I found a website that produces AI-created portraits. The portraits are generated by AI photos. Despite their realistic looks, the people pictured don’t exist.
So I downloaded these images and have googled it who using this portrait on the internet. And I found 12 people using her portrait. She is a lawyer, also a blogger who is interested in Nutrition, and also an artist who sells children's books on Amazon. I connect with those 12 women "through the fiber". They exist, but they do not exist. They all have their own different personalities and identities, but then can they be called existing people? They are visible, but they are not.
I printed the identities of the 12 people on tracing paper and bound them with an Internet cable. They will exist endlessly "through the fiber".
